What is Balayage Hair Colour?
Balayage is French for “to sweep” or “to paint”; balayage is a softer highlighting technique where we free hand paint the hair. It gives the hair a sun kissed natural look, and avoids a hard regrowth line. Balayage has been around for a long time, but was made popular by the likes of Alexa Chung and Khloe Kardashian.

Is Balayage Suitable for ALL Hair Colours?
Balayage can be adapted to all hair colours, the trick is to keep the palette of colours in harmony so the overall result is soft and beautiful… unless you want something that pops and then the lightened hair can be coloured and toned to something a little more daring! We use the most beautiful and luxurious hair colour from La Biosthetique.

Are Babylights & Root Stretch the Same as Balayage?
No, babylights are super fine highlights, they are soft, subtle and almost undetectable. Babylights are often used around the face and hair line to break up any hard lines or blocks of colour. Root stretching or root shadowing is where a darker shade of colour is applied to the root area and smudged down the hair to blend with the balayage highlights.

How Should I Prepare For My Balayage Hair Colour Appointment?
Bring lots of photographs of balayage styles that you like. Our stylists are experts in colour. We can advise on colours and looks that we think will suit your hair type. We will guide you through what can be achieved from the outset and plan your colour transformation. Drastic colour changes often require multiple visits. We firmly believe in keeping your hair in excellent condition, and will only lighten to a level we feel appropriate at each visit. Colour change is a journey, and to get a clean light blonde we will have to expose underlying tones and colours in the hair along the way.
It’s a process: Remember when Khloe Kardashian went from brunette to platinum blonde? This took 4 gruelling lightening appointments and regular toners…
How Long Will It Take To Create a Balayage Look For Me?
This all depends on the colour of your hair, your colour history, and the look you want to achieve. Be honest with your stylist and tell them about previous colour history, it helps us get you to where you want to be. Be prepared for what we call the in between colours. To get from brunette to blonde we have to expose tones of copper, gold and pale yellow.
Are There Many ‘Downsides’ To Having Balayage?
Balayage is a colour that wears well and doesn’t need topping up as often as traditional foil highlights. If you have a root stretch we will need to colour your regrowth every 6 to 8 weeks. To keep your blonde tone looking great we recommend regular toner appointments, normally every 4 weeks. A toner and blow-dry can cost as little as £35. You will need to invest in salon professional home haircare to keep your hair nourished and in the best condition possible. If you blow-dry your hair or use heated stylers we recommend investing in a heat protection spray. Nobody likes singed ends.
How Much Does It Cost To Have Balayage or Babylights?
Everybody’s hair is different. Before your balayage we offer complimentary colour consultation appointments. During your consultation your stylist will advise of the cost of the service. Typically a balayage, toner and cut and blow-dry costs in the region of £100.
