If you are thinking of going blonde, but have no idea which blonde shade will suit you, let the hair experts at Fox Hair Design salons in Barwell and Hinckley explain all!
We can help you find the perfect blonde to suit you so please book in for a complimentary colour consultation which will be uniquely tailored to you. We will take into account your lifestyle and personality, assess your hair type and condition and listen to your needs.
The terminology surrounding blonde hair (and all hair colours, to be perfectly honest!) can be confusing, so let us explain some of the basics when it comes to blondes.
[areaswecover title=’The Best Blonde Hair Colour Salons in Leicestershire’]
Blonde is a broad term that covers all sorts of different blonde shades from a very light brown to the whitest platinum blonde.
Once we’ve discussed the blonde colour you desire, your colour specialist will look at your base colour. This is what your hair colour is at the start of the colouring process. Base colours start at 1 for black shades and finish at 10 which is the lightest blonde possible.
We would also decide which tone is right for you – taking into account your skin tone and even your eye colour to find a tone that ‘lights up’ your complexion. Tones are wide-ranging and go from a brown mocha through to red, copper, gold and more blue-toned ash blonde shades.
It is also likely we will add a secondary undertone to give your hair another hint of colour and make it multi-dimensional. For example, we might add a purple tone or blue undertone to stop your blonde looking brassy.
As already mentioned, we will look at your skin tone to decide on the perfect blonde tone for you.
Golden blondes, honey blondes and copper blondes have warm undertones. If you want a cool blonde hair colour such as ash blonde, platinum or champagne blonde, we will add some cool tones (think blues and violet or purple tones).
You may also have heard about neutral tones – which is somewhere inbetween cool and warm blondes. Neutral tones support your base colour rather than adding, say, a golden glow or removing brassy tones.

If you want your blonde hair colour to remain true to shade for as long as possible, it really is important to invest in a specialist shampoo and conditioner for blondes. Your Fox Hair Design colourist can recommend the right hair care products for your blonde shade. Plus, depending on how light your hair is from your natural colour, you will need to book in to have your roots touched up every 6-8 weeks. A toner or glossing treatment can also work wonders in freshening up your colour in-between visits to your local Fox Hair Salon.
If you are new to hair colour, you will require a quick patch test 48 hours prior to your hair colour appointment. We can explain everything you need to know during your free hair colour consultation so please give us a call on 01455 245245 to book in. We also offer quick & easy online booking here (which also includes our booking terms).

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is organised by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and the importance of early detection, and to raise money for research and treatment.
There are a lot of common misconceptions surrounding breast cancer and at a difficult time it is important that you have as many facts as possible.
To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fox Hair Design wants to provide you with information about what happens to your hair during cancer treatment, and tips on how to care for your hair during this time.
Overcoming your illness is the most important thing, but we would like to offer some tips on how to regain some normalcy during a period that is anything but normal.

For many women diagnosed with breast cancer, one of the most distressing side effects of cancer treatment is hair loss. Everybody adapts to hair loss is their own way, but for some women it can be a truly devastating experience. Hair loss is a very visible side effect of cancer treatment, it can affect our self-esteem and sense of identity.
Following chemotherapy, hair loss commonly begins within two to three weeks. The hair loss affects body and facial hair including eyebrows and eyelashes. However, hair loss is in most cases a temporary side effect of the treatment, so hair will start to grow back after chemotherapy is over or even towards the end of your cancer treatment.
Hair that grows back after chemotherapy may feel different from your hair before treatment however, there may be a change in the texture and shape of your hair.
• Get into the habit now of being kind to your hair. Do not use harsh chemical treatments on your hair including perms or hair colour — this can weaken it. Stay away heated styling tools such as straighteners or rollers and try to air-dry your hair wherever possible. Strengthening and nourishing your hair and scalp now might make it more likely to stay in your head a little longer during treatment.
• Short hair can be styled in such a way that it can look thicker than longer hair, as your hair starts to fall out it will be less noticeable with a shorter hairstyle. A shorter hairstyle may also make the transition to hair loss less upsetting for you, it is important to keep stress to a minimum as much as possible during this time. Speak to your Fox Hair Design stylist about a shorter hairstyle before your treatment starts.
• Many women choose to wear their heads bare, but if that is not something you wish to do, you may want to think about head coverings to conceal your hair loss. You can choose from many head coverings, wigs and scarves are the most popular head coverings. There are some fantastic high-quality synthetic wigs and real human hair wigs on the market, that are practically indetectable.
• Continue to be gentle with your hair throughout your chemotherapy treatment. Use a soft brush, such as a baby brush. Use a gentle shampoo free from parabens and chemicals. Wash your hair only when very necessary.
• Some women report that their scalps sensitive, itchy and can become irritated during their chemotherapy treatment and whilst their hair is falling out. It is possible to reduce the irritation by shaving your head. Many women shave their heads because it can save the embarrassment of shedding and can look better than patchy hair loss.
•Your scalp can become very sensitive throughout treatment and so you must protect it with a sunscreen, or even a head covering such as a wig or headscarf. Extreme cold can also make your head feel sensitive, so ensuring that it is covered will help you to feel less uncomfortable.
• Your new hair growth will be especially fragile and vulnerable to damage, so you should continue with your gentle treatment. Do not colour your hair until it becomes stronger, this may damage your new hair and irritate your scalp. Avoid heated styling such as rollers or curling tongs and air dry your hair as often as possible.
•New, healthy hair growth takes time. Your new hair may grow in slowly and could grow back in a different texture or colour to before, sometimes previously straight hair can grow back curly. You will need to be patient as it could be up to 6 months until you can expect a healthy head of hair.
If you are due to commence cancer treatment and are concerned about hair loss, book in for a hair loss consultation please call the team at Fox Hair Design. We offer a friendly and relaxed welcome and aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible during this time.

Fox Hair Design salons in Barwell and Hinckley will take on a bubblegum pink shade on October 18th when our staff and clients will embrace Wear It Pink Day!
As well as turning our salons pink, we’ll be wearing pink and encouraging visiting clients to put on their best pink outfits! The aim is to raise money for Breast Cancer Now to make life-saving research happen.
This is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK when thousands of amazing people will wear it pink in their communities, schools or work places for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity.
And since the first event in 2002, Breast Cancer Now has raised over £31.5 million for life-saving research. Research that’s working to discover how to prevent breast cancer, how to detect it earlier and how to treat it effectively at every stage so we can stop the disease taking lives.
Check out some of these photos from last year’s Wear It Pink Day and come along to enjoy our cake sale, making a donation to help this worthy cause, and support our stylists. Thank you!
