Top Tips For First Time Hair Colour Guests at Fox Hair Design Salons in Barwell & Hinckley
Fed up with your mousey hair colour? Do you feel your natural red hair needs a boost? We understand it can be daunting when considering colouring your hair for the first time which is why we’ve written this article to answers any concerns you might have about colouring hair for the first time…
First Steps: A Skin Test & A Colour Consultation
Your Skin Test: Our colour services are available to men and women aged 16 and over. You must come in for a quick skin test at least 48 hours prior to your colour appointment to test for allergies to the colour range we use. All we do is dab a small amount of colour behind your ear which you should wipe away after 30 minutes. If you have had no reaction within 48 hours, we can go ahead with your hair colour.
Your Colour Consultation: We recommend booking in for a free hair colour consultation with one of our expert hairdressers before colouring. We will discuss the hair colours you like, which hair colours will suit your skin tone, as well as the hair colouring methods we can use, and how much your colour service will cost.

Fashion Hair Colours – Brights & Pastels
Some women – and, to a lesser extent, men – enjoy making a big statement when it comes to their hair colour. If you are new to hair colour and want to turn heads, try a bright colour or a pretty pastel shade. We can mix and match colours to create unique shades so take some time to talk to us about what you desire.

Natural-Looking Hair Colour – Balayage
One of the most popular hair colour techniques is balayage where colour is painted onto certain sections of the hair to give a natural-looking, sun-kissed look. This is a low-maintenance look with slightly darker roots so requires fewer visits to your hairdresser.

Should I Choose Temporary or Permanent Hair Colour?
Temporary Hair Colour – If you are colouring your hair for the first time, consider starting off with a temporary hair dye which will wash out over a few shampoos. Remember, however, that you can only go darker with temporary hair colour. If you want to lighten your hair, you will need to use a semi-permanent or permanent dye.
Semi-Permanent Hair Colour – You can achieve a longer-lasting hair colour with a semi-permanent shade. This is perfect if you want to subtly boost your natural hair colour or cover your first grey hairs.
Demi-Permanent Hair Colour – Color & Gloss from La Biosthetique Paris is suitable for every hair colour. It will softly enhance your colour, rather than drastically changing the shade. Using a very gentle method, completely free from ammonia, it will even enhance your natural colour.
Permanent Hair Colour – Permanent hair dye works by lifting the cuticles along the hair shaft and depositing the colour deeper within each hair strand. Your colour will be permanent and your roots will need re-touching every eight weeks. You are likely to see a more vibrant colour with permanent hair colouring.

How To Care For Your Coloured Hair
Now that you’ve had your hair coloured for the first time, you’ll want to keep it glossy and vibrant.
Hair colour care starts in the salon during the colouring process with a superb treatment called Protection Cheveux Complexe which contains a revolutionary active ingredient that protects, restructures and conditions the hair both inside and outside during and after chemical treatments. The hair structure is renewed, conditioned and sealed to retain its natural beauty.
Equally fantastic is BC Fibre Clinix, a bespoke hair repair service that will transform your hair, making it stronger and healthier.
If you have lightened your hair, we highly recommend using a silver shampoo which comes in a purple shade. This neutralises brassy or orange tones to ensure your blonde hair remains fresh and vibrant. For brown or darker hair colours we can recommend the right hair care products for your particular hair colour, type and texture.
